Word on the street is that the upcoming Darren Aronofsky film, Black Swan, will open the Venice Film Festival on Sept 1st. So - what's cooler than a ballet/psychological thriller starring Natalie Portman? The answer, my loves, are the 40 costumes IN the movie that Rodarte designed for the movie's entire ballet corps.
According to an IMDB movie synopsis, Portman plays Nina, a ballerina chosen in the lead of an NYC production of Swan Lake who has new competition in a rival dancer played by Mila Kunis. The two dancers maintain a twisted friendship and Portman goes to some dark lengths in order to keep her top spot. I'm officially dying to see this movie, but the inclusion of these Rodarte costumes have turned it into visual porno. Only a few photos have been released and I can't wait to see more. This is one girl who LOVES a tutu.

Look at the hem and length of that tutu. Sigh.

It's no secret that sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy have an undying love for film. In the past, they have taken inspiration from Frankenstein (circa 1931), Japanese horror flicks, etc. Besides, costume design seems like the natural progression for Rodarte as their runway shows are performances in their own right. This is Rodarte's first foray into film, but I am SURE that it won't be their last.
