When driving though Hollywood and Beverly Hills, it is all but impossible to not notice the pole banners advertising the Tim Burton exhibit at LACMA. I can't wait to check it out and the fact that the museum is down the street from our apartment only makes it that much more appealing. The Burton show includes his work as a director of live-action and animated films, and then as an artist, illustrator, photographer, and writer. His brain seems perfectly f***ed up and I'd love to peek into it a little. Today a whole other layer to this exhibit came to my attention...and my excitement hit a new high.
Burton teamed up with LACMA eatery Ray's and Stark Bar to deliver a custom menu that riffs of his cinematic aesthetic. The bar is offering a special drink called the Dr. Burton -- inspired by Burton's favorite soda, Dr. Pepper -- filled with ingredients like rum, cherry herring, Disaronno, and Amaro Ciociar. If you're looking for avant garde snacks (and when am I not?), you can munch on two dishes designed by the director: razor clams in squid-olive broth ($16) and white rabbit with tea in a mushroom forest ($27). Call me crazy, but I feel like Burton is no stranger to white rabbits and mushroom forests... But the most important question is - can I go to the exhibit dressed like Helena Bonham Carter?
