Hello Kitty

I think I would lie down and die if someone called me a cougar. That being said, I'm having a total leopard moment. I'm not sure where it came from, but lately I cannot get enough of the spots. Leopard shoes, leopard belts, leopard floor treatments...I want it all.

I keep coming back to this photo from The Sartorialist. Brown and white polka dots with leopard pumps might be my new favorite combination of all time.

How beyond are these stairs? I found this image on Style at Home and the leopard stairs, the threadbare rug, the upholstered chair, and the black and white checkered entryway work SO PERFECTLY. My concern is that if I ever did something like this, it would look a little too Hustler Club meets Martha Stewart.

Elizabeth & James Chiffon Leopard Print Booties - $395
I'm going to need these in my closet. Sooner than later. Michelle Tanner knows what the hell she's doing when it comes to footwear.

Foley + Corinna Burnout Leopard Drape Dress - $410
This backless draped minidress is hot. Really hot.

Let Me Put the Hot in Your Toddy

It's official. The snow is kicking my ass. I want a little sunshine, a run in Central Park, and a goddamn sundress. Since it seems like months until any of those things become a reality, I'll take a different kind of warm-up....hot, cinnamon-y, booze.

Hari Nathan Kalyan, owner of The Randolph at Broome, shared his magic Hot Toddy recipe and it's guaranteed to make this weather a little more bearable. And even if it doesn't, at least you'll be drunk when facing the elements...

Randolph House Toddy
4 lemon wedges
3/4 oz honey syrup
2 oz Laird's Apple brandy
5 oz hot water
3 dashes Angostura bitters
one muddler
  • Put the lemon wedges in a coffee mug (don't confuse with putting the lotion in the basket)
  • Pour in remaining ingredients
  • Muddle
  • Top with hot water
  • Garnish with cinnamon and/or star anise
Voila!

Drag Race

Marc Jacobs is getting in touch with his feminine side - sartorially speaking at least. Sneaking looks out of the Louis Vuitton closet, Marc gets into drag for the latest issue of Industrie Magazine. The images were shot by Patrick Demarchelier and with all that feathered hair and those floppy hats, I think Marc resembles a Penelope Cruz/Captain Hook lovechild.

Let's be honest here, when it comes to physical transformations, Marc's metamorphosis from paunchy, bespectacled geekster to a muscly, tattooed gym-goer is legendary. And since his major change of look, we've all seen Marc don teeny Speedos, tutus, and the ever present kilt -- so a little drag is not such a shocker. It's actually pretty glam and badass. I love a smoky eye with a side of beard.

It's All Happening

This is going to be greatest weekend of my life.

Golden Globes 2011

The Good.

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive.
Divine. It's a little Dynasty, but still divine.

Catherine Zeta-Jones in Monique Lhullier.
This is 100% Hollywood glam and, it might just be me, but is CZT getting younger? I feel as though she's spent a big chunk of Gordon Gekko's money on a time machine. She has never looked better.

Brad Pitt in Tom Ford and Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace.
There are no words. This is the hottest, most interesting couple on Earth. End of story.

Mila Kunis in Vera Wang.
I have a gorgeous boyfriend but would leave him in one second for Mila Kunis. She looks absolutely stunning, Macaulay Culkin is somewhere in LA sobbing right now.

Leighton Meester in Burberry.
People hated her in this dress. Well...people are retarded. She looks elegant and whimsical and I guess I'm just a sucker for a poofy shoulder.

The Bad.

Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf.
She needs to read a few pages of Heidi Klum's Guide-to-Looking-Hot-On-The-Red-Carpet-While-Full-of-Baby because this dress is a NO. Her acceptance speech for Best Actress was a HELL NO.

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood.
HBC told reporters that she was "channeling an evil witch fairy" when she was getting ready for the show. Of course she was. And let's be honest, how disappointing would it be to see her in Armani with a simple top knot and matching shoes? Exactly.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta.
I think the baby diva is annoying. She needs Roy Teeluck to poke a few more bobby pins into that unnecessarily messy updo and she also needs to learn that 5'1" girls can't wear that much of a ruffle. BTW the hand over her heart and intense emotional eyes whenever someone won from Glee was almost more than I could bear.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad.
This is a poor showing. When Jenny From the Block RSVP's to an award show, she usually BRINGS IT. Apparently this year, "it" included a bedazzled, sheer mini-cape.

Julianne Moore in Lanvin.
HOLY SLEEVE BATMAN. This is the very definition of someone slapping on a large detail in efforts to be edgy and avant garde. You could inflate that sleeve and take a nice trip over the rooftops of LA. UP: The Sequel.

I Will Always Heart NY

NYC - Mindrelic Timelapse from Mindrelic on Vimeo.

This is like Lost In Translation meets a great acid trip. It's brilliant and definitely gives me goosebumps.

Happy weekend loves.

RAH RAH OH LA LA

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that here at D&D, we are a little gaga about Gaga. I've covered Gaga sugar cookies, the Gaga barbies, showed you all my red-lace-Gaga Halloween costume, and wrote to Santa asking for actual Gaga tickets. So understand why I'm a little pissed that NONE of you gave me a heads up regarding the V Magazine/Lady Gaga photo contest for their Discovery Issue. Not cool.

Anyway, the upcoming issue of V Magazine (out January 13th) is going to feature a collage of "Little Monsters" - hundreds of the best images of fans paying tribute to Lady Gaga. They pawed through over 8000 submissions to finally choose the best 400 for the magazine. 8000 submissions. 8000 versions of human-hair bows, pointy shoulder pads, bubbles, and red lace. I want to know what it feels like to have 8000 people who are so inspired by my insane wardrobe choices, to not only dress up like me, but to then send their photos into a magazine. It's brilliant. Gaga for President.

Last but not least....yours truly.

A Moment With Scott Schuman

So inspiring. Love this.

My Rachel Zoe Report

BA-NAN-AS.

There was nothing else to say when I first saw the images from Rachel Zoe's eponymous collection this morning. The Rachel Zoe Collection is a collaboration with super-stylist Rachel Zoe and Asian manufacturer Li & Fung. She isn't sold in any stores yet, although I'm sure buyers are lining up. If there's one thing Mama Zoe is better at than styling, it's selling the Zoe brand.

The collection has a serious 70's vibe that is much more tailored than the flouncy, bohemian vibe that Zoe usually rocks. It features great-looking skirt-suits with bubble hems; long, lean pantsuits; and superchic shift dresses, tuxedos, and coats. And - who are we kidding here, it's Rachel Zoe - she's obviously including bags, flats, heels, and boots.

I would wear every piece. I mean, THIS is what this woman does while 7 months pregnant and filming a Bravo show? Unbelievable. I feel like I need a round of applause if I make it to the gym before work.

Images courtesy of WWD. BTW how much do you love that she's actually styling in the images? Genius.

Cape Fearless

I'm just going to start this post by saying that girls from Colorado are AWESOME. Awesome. Only a girl from Aspen would travel to Macchu Picchu and then come back inspired to create fierce cloaks out of Mexican blankets and Pendleton jacket wool.

Lindsey Thornburg creates the best bespoke cloaks I've seen since Hogwarts AND she produces everything out of NYC, keeping things nice and local. Her cloaks are for those days when you just want to hide and honestly, who hasn't been desperately hungover and wanted nothing more than to skulk around the city swathed in a massive cloak? Exactly. Everyone.

Mid-Length San Miguel - $1200

Mid-Length Mexican Blanket - $880

Mini Cloak Zapotec - Price TBD

Mid-Length Harding Red - $985

Available in full, mid, and mini, the capes are all limited edition, so each one is a work of art (and priced out around $900). You can find them online at http://shopbop.com or in Nolita at Love, Adorned.

Dog Days Are Over

I'm not the most sentimental girl in the world, but it's only natural to do a little reflecting when the the odometer comes back around to zero. It seemed like the general consensus that 2010's spin around the sun was a big F*** YOU to everyone involved. This was a year of extraordinary and unexpected transition filled with all sorts of painful and terrifying stuff that maybe, just maybe, was the darkness before the dawn.

2011, if you're listening, take it easy. Let us catch our breath a bit.

On that note, my New Year's Eve consisted of a fantastic, VIP-only party at my Brooklyn apartment. It was the perfect way to start this new year, which I have a feeling is going to be pretty goddamn amazing.

The fabulous video below was shot during the course of NYE and was edited by my amazingly talented friend Dale Thomas Krupla. He is available for weddings, bar mitzvahs, and soft core porn shoots. If this video doesn't tug on your beginning-of-a-new-year heart strings, nothing will.

The Holy Grail

True to his word, Tom Ford finally released the video from his not-so-secret Spring 2011 Womenswear collection. The reel is set to model/singer Karen Elson's song, "Pretty Babies" (she also walked in the show) and the video splices together runway clips of the looks, the various celebs who walked in them, the backstage shots, reactions from the editors, and Uncle Terry photographing the entire thing.

All I want to know is who is the little girl in the front row at the 1.10 mark? I hate her for being 7 years old and having the ability to witness such insane glamour.

This fashion show was so old school, so glamourous, so exclusive, that when the hyper-VIP crowd jumps to it's feet to cheer at the end I get such goosebumps. Beyonce shimmering around and Lauren Hutton vamping....sigh. You cannot deny that this isn't a throwback to Tom's hyper-sexed, 90's era Gucci days. It's just SO GOOD.

2010 + 1 = 2011

This is what my life feels like post-NYE.

I had another epic New Years Eve party at the Haus of Glitter and pics are definitely soon to come. Let's just say there was a 100-lb dog, mustaches on sticks, and a fez. Yes. I said fez.

In the meantime, like the rest of you, I'm at the beginning of a get-in-better-shape, save-more-money, blog-more-frequently list of resolutions. 2011 is feelin' pretty lucky so I think they just might stick...but I digress. While looking for healthy recipes, I came across some great stuff in Tracy Anderson's 30-Day Method - especially the recipe below for Quinoa Porridge with Apple Compote. Delish.

Quinoa Porridge with Apple Compote
Makes one four-ounce serving.

Ingredients
1/2 c. quinoa
1/2 c. apple juice
1/2 c. orange juice
1 sweet apple (like Gala or Fuji)
1/4 c. blueberries

1. In a saucepan, slowly cook the quinoa (10-12 minutes) with the juices, stirring occasionally.

2. Meanwhile, steam the apple.

3. Peel the apple and blend in a food processor. Add blueberries and puree lightly.

4. When quinoa is ready, top with the fruit compote, and serve.

Voila - you look like Gwyneth Paltrow.
