Coach-Ella Moss

In a few weeks, Coachella, the perfect blend of indie music and fashion, culminates in the middle of the California desert. I'm killing myself that we didn't get 3-day passes in time. But for all of you lucky party people, don't forget that dressing for summer festivals requires a definite need for practicality and flair as battling 100 degree weather poses a serious style challenge. Light flowy fabrics, comfortable flats, and a messenger bag(to keep your hands free for a camera and $10 beer) are now at the top of your shipping list. Enter Ella Moss.

The brand’s laid-back LA tone is just what the doctor ordered for a weekend spent dancing. Designer Pamella Protzel Scott describes her fictional muse, Ella Moss, as “a modern bohemian with a West Coast sensibility. She listens to feel-good music and drives with the windows down. She doesn’t take herself too seriously. She is the girl who can dress up a t-shirt and dress down a dress.” Hell yes. This sounds like exactly the kind of girl I’d want to join me at a show.

Even though EVERYONE is going to be in a short pair of denim cutoffs, don’t be afraid to show off your girly side. Ella Moss’ Crinkle Chiffon Bohemian Dress is the epitome of festival chic especially when it’s topped off with black Alexander Wang shades. If the sun has gone down, your buzz has worn off, and Kanye STILL hasn’t gone on stage, Ella Moss’ Estelle Silk Safari Shirt is the perfect light layer to slip on. I added La Mer's Orange Wrap Watch to the look as it adds a cute pop of color and contrasts the gem tones of each piece.

Regardless of which Ella Moss piece you ended up rocking, make sure to turn the Coachella fashion up a few notches…and leave your flip flops at home.

Saddest Little Bar Crawl in the World

Bye Brooklyn...I'll miss you.

So this is my last weekend at 390. It's intense. I've lived in this apartment for 3 years and that's a LONG time to live in an NYC rental, especially a crazy 3rd floor walkup in the middle of a Puerto Rican neighborhood. Naturally some kind of proper goodbye was in order and that manifested itself in a last minute, Williamsburg bar crawl. Brilliance. Little did I know, our bar crawl was only going to last through 2 BARS. Sad.

The afternoon started at DuMont Burger. We had the good intention of drinking late into the night, so delish sustenance was necessary. Well, that and a DuMont burger and 3 John Daly's are the best possible way start to anything. Three bites in, J.P. said the burger was so good it gave him a hard on. Classy.

...and burgers are for Badasses.

Not sure if this was before or after the alleged "burger hard-on."

Mmm. Beef.

After DuMont, we walked off our beef coma down Bedford to the Levee. There is some of the most hilarious graffiti in Williamsburg and I just HAD to take one in the face. Sorry Mom.

We found an Ice Cream Truck parking garage. It was sort of perfect.

We finally made our way over to the Levee, and for those of you don't often party in Brooklyn, the Levee is a temple of cheesy poofs, bourbon, and Connect4. By now we had been aggressively drinking Jack Daniels and, luckily for everyone involved, when I drink and play any kind of game I start to talk shit. The Japester didn't stand a chance.

The High Priestess of Darts. And yes, my fly is down. I wonder how long that was going on.

Cheeeeeeesy. Poooooofs.

When we left the bar, we were DRUNK, or at least I was. Everything J.P. said was cracking me up, even though at 7 drinks in, a dancing Tele-Tubby would probably have me in tears. This is also when things started getting a little hazy. We went to some empty bar called Viva Toro that had a cowhide covered mechanical bull and blue lights everywhere. I seriously considered riding the bull, but since the blue lights were making me dizzy, I thankfully vetoed the idea. We ended up hopping in a cab and I went back to 390 hammered for the very last time. Passing out drunk on whiskey at 10pm with all of my clothes on and all of the lights on is the best goodbye I could ever give this apartment.

12 Things Every Woman Should Have

One Diptyque Candle

Figuier Candles from Diptyque are the surest way to make your apartment smell like the lobby of the Gramercy Park Hotel. I don't think there's anyone who doesn't want that.

One Signature Fragrance
Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle has been my personal stink since college. I love it. It's completely timeless and has luxurious orange and bergamot notes. I can be completely dressed but until I spritz some on, I don't fully feel...ready.

One Go-To Recipe
I'm quickly becoming very domesticated but I haven't been cooking long enough to have honed a recipe that I can pull off without a flaw. Mario Batali's Spaghetti alla Carbonara recipe was on GOOP this morning and it looks so divine that I might have to keep carbo-loading until I make this my one flawless dish.

One Men's Watch
There is just nothing sexier than a big gold watch on a small, girl-sized wrist. Obviously my Rolex isn't coming anytime soon, but a gold Michael Kors always does the trick.

One Pair of Diamond Earrings
Diamond studs are such a simple accessory but they pack a lot of punch. As earrings go, they're a definite investment - .40 carats at Tiffany are about $2,300 - but you will have them FOREVER.

One Piece of Va-Va Voom Lingerie
I don't care who you are, feeling sexy is really fun. Wearing something sexy for the person in your life? Even more fun. This Agent Provocateur Classic Corset is HOT HOT HOT.

One Great Hairstylist
The person who does your hair is one of the most important people in the world - choose wisely. And while you're choosing wisely, choose Roy Teeluck. He is the MASTER at dealing with my crazy, thick mane.

One Guilty Pleasure
The Real Housewives of...ANYWHERE - O.C., Atlanta, New York, New Jersey, Beverly Hills - I love all of them. They are tacky, gaudy, argumentative, petty and I am obsessed with every minute of it. God Bless Andy Cohen for bringing these harpies into my life.

One Good Camera
Life is pretty fantastic...take pictures of it. A Canon SLR is definitely the best way to do it.

One Good Man
Find one. I highly recommend it - they change everything.

A Sad Day in Hollywood

Oscar-winning movie goddess and Hollywood icon, Elizabeth Taylor died this morning. It is unbelievably sad and one can already feel the glamourous hole she has left behind.

You will be missed Liz, and I, for one, am going to buy a bottle of White Diamonds today. It seems like the right thing to do....

Tennis, Anyone?

In just a few weeks, Catherine Malandrino's debut collection for iconic tennis and sportwear brand, Lacoste, will hit stores to lots of crocodilian fanfare. The 12-piece capsule collection (which is her first of four collections with them) is a complete departure from the beer-stained, fraternity brand that inundated everyone's college experience. Malandrino's Lacoste includes slouchy harem pants, wide leg trousers, collared crochet gowns, and pleated miniskirts.

She also reinvented the brand's logo to include two kissing crocodiles, one green and one yellow. Her goal was to bring "emotion, desire, and seduction" to the esteemed classic brand. She is definitely breathing some much needed life back into their image.

The collection will be available mid-April at approximately 43 Lacoste boutiques and 11 Malandrino stores.

Spring Forward

I LOVE spring. L.O.V.E. Despite the fact that it isn't officially spring until Sunday, I'm throwing my boots, my wool cape, and all of my sweaters into a box that I don't plan on opening, well....ever again because WE'RE MOVING TO LA!! Sorry - I had to bring it up again.

Below are some things very high on my springtime wishlist. I'm forecasting my warm weather steeze to be VERY Jackie O.

Elizabeth & James Cat's Eye Sunnies - $185 at Saks Fifth Avenue

Emerson Made Tuxedo Jacket - $225 at Emerson Made

All Saints Vellamo Dress - $95 at All Saints

DAY Birger et Mikkelsen Striped Jersey Top - $100 at Net-a-Porter

A Touch of Perspective

Last week was (in my opinion) a tough week. I worked A TON, am in the midst of packing up my apartment, miss my family, and am scheduled within an absolute inch of my life. But all of that being said -- things ain't so bad. Not nearly. Not even a little.

I hate that it takes the terrifying events going on in Japan to put the world in a little perspective, but we are self-centered New Yorkers who often need to be shaken to our core to get our heads out of our asses. I have a great boyfriend, wonderful friends, supportive family, too many jobs (in a world when many don't even have one), and my apartment is still standing.

I've made a donation to the Red Cross here - every little bit helps....

I'm Drunk. I'm Drunk At Vogue.

A few days ago I was packing up my apartment and watching the series finale of Sex and the City. I hadn't watched any SATC for a while and it was weird how much I missed it, how comforting and familiar a TV show can feel. Besides how can you not love a show that has fashion credits?

When I first moved to New York (the summer of 2006) the series was already over and the first movie was in the works, but it wasn't until then that I started to fall madly in love with the series. I had just started working in fashion and (irresponsibly) I was spending all of my money on Balthazar brunches and ridiculously priced shoes. It was easy to identify with these gorgeous women who did the exact same things I did (albeit on a much larger scale).

So last weekend - in a pile of boxes and my book collection - I popped in the series finale. Now if you ask me, this is the BEST content SATC ever had to offer. It was so perfectly written, so perfectly melancholy, and had the best ending ever. You are a love terrorist if you didn't want Big and Carrie to ultimately end up together...

But on a completely different level, it was in these last two episodes that Carrie's wardrobe launched itself into the stratosphere. It was STUNNING, perfectly Parisian, and there wasn't a ridiculous flower pin in sight.

There isn't anyone more synonymous with Parisian knitwear than Sonia Rykiel, so it was such a smart choice for the first Paris scene. The stripes (and a play on that goddamn flower again) make for a very soft, romantic look.

The drop-dead gorgeous Atelier Versace gown Carrie wore while waiting (and waiting) for Petrovsky on her first night in Paris is my absolute favorite SATC look of all time. This dress completely takes you out of reality. It's acres and acres of tulle and chiffon in this darkly romantic color. It captured the mood perfectly - to be so woeful and THAT dressed up.

This red polka dotted Balenciaga is so fantastic but when it's paired with a black overcoat (with french cuffs - WHAAAT?) and that umbrella, it's perfection. And I'm dying over that little pop of green tulle!

This vintage seafoam ballet dress from the final scene in Paris (I wish you could see it better) is the reason my friend hauled a custom made hot pink tutu back to me from Barcelona. I love a good tutu. And yes, my hot pink tutu is still in my closet.

Louis Vuitton's Luxury Fetish

On the final day of Paris Fashion Week (or fashion MONTH if you combine New York, London, and then Paris), Louis Vuitton's 2011 show left me speechless. I don't remember the last show (ours included) that has left me so inspired, with such a need to create something amazing. This show WAS high fashion. It was kinky, sexy, conceptual, extravagant, and so goddamn creatively driven. Sigh.

Updating 40's silhouettes, Marc Jacobs sent models (including Carolyn Murphy, Naomi Campbell, and Jessica Stam) out of a bank of hotel-esque elevators in leather, rubber, perfect chauffeur caps, peter pan collars, and jodphurs. Jodphurs, jodphurs, jodphurs. It was The Night Porter with a filthy sense of humor - one that included Kate Moss seductively smoking a cigarette down the runway.

Yes, please.

Almost every girl carried a bag which Jacobs said was an ode to the "heritage of the company." This clutch is so stunning...it literally hurts my eyes.

Kate. Moss.

WWD said it better than I ever could, "Fashion exists because of obsession. That heart-racing, visceral yearning that makes otherwise rational people pre-order, stand first in line, and lay out big bucks for what which they blatantly do not need, yet cannot live without." Amen because let's be honest here - you need to be a Russian Czarina with a serious sugar daddy to be able to afford even one piece of this collection.
